I met Teodora Katelieva in 2007. Someone referred me to ‘the best trainer’ in the world. It’s been a long time and she’s still my ‘trainer’. She has a great sense of humor, but takes her job seriously. Her no bullshit theology keeps me grounded and connected to my own power and strength. Covid came, and without skipping a beat, she’s finding ways to take care of business and continue serving her clients. No self pity, no complaining. Onward. Here she is showing me one of her new tools. I could write a book about the lessons she’s helped me […]
Recently, I was on assignment for TriRail. One of our objectives was to shoot the platforms at peak times to illustrate the volume and different types of riders using the train. The week after I finished this work, things changed. It still seems so surreal to me….the things that are becoming normal now. Public transportation is one of the best places to witness and feel these new norms. Caution. Fear. Optimism. Most important, the innate desire people have to carrying on, despite. I wanted to explore this new phenomenon using some images from this project in a different way.
Currently, it seems that it is in everyones best interest to nurture creative impulses, regardless of one’s job or personal situation. Great time to discover unimagined opportunities for creativity and service in every aspect of life. At last I have time for ongoing project, #PresentMomentBeautifulMoment, a photographic #botanicalstudy exploring #presence. Each image is produced by interacting with the natural environment. Through presence botanical items emerge. I interact with them by using a black cloth to separate them from their environment. After isolating and photographing the plant or tree or flower on location, I continue the process in post production. It’s […]
Dreaming. Creating. Never quitting. Doing, doing and doing the right thing with no attachment to an outcome. Day after day. Unwavering commitment to quality. That’s what many small businesses are about. Like mine (escardaphoto.com) and like the people at the #Fiddlershop. Fedex Small Business Grant Contest Award Winners 2018. I keep reading about how technologies like mirrorless cameras and phones will change the landscape or even eliminate the role of many in creative fields like photography. They say anyone can take high quality photos with these new devices…I say BALONEY! Because it always has been, and always will be, about how one sees. It’s about intentions and goals and connecting with target audiences in a way that is meaningful. In ways that help people in some way…to live, play and engage. The following are some Iphone pics of a night out at #losaltosspeakeasy @billfuller @zackbush ENJOY! Maybe check the […]
As a creative it is so important to explore and play away from work. That’s why I found myself recharging my creative batteries with tapas and wine on a rainy night in Logrono, Spain. I loved being here. Roaming the narrow streets of Logrono, Spain under the drizzle of a cool rain. Ducking into one of many bars and restaurants for tapas/pintxos and a glass of wine. The energy of people crowded together, sharing, laughing and telling stories was amazing! It was one of those times in my life that I relished being alive for one more day. Can’t blame […]
My family and I visited the Miccosukee Tribe Festival over the holidays. It was an awesome cultural celebration. The dancers, dressed in elaborate tribal costumes, were amazing! As were the stories of their past, present and future. Stories about physical and spiritual strength, values and wisdom. It’s hard to deny that all that comes before us remains a part of us in some way. So I’m wishing everyone #manyblessings in the new year! Especially, the blessing of knowing what from the past is worth expanding on and what is best left to shrink into the past. May creativity (God) and […]
As a photographer not a week goes by without friends, family and/or clients asking, ‘Can you photograph my kids, my family, my dog, so and so’s wedding?’, etc. Lol! I often want to say, ‘Yes!’, but I can’t! I am one person focusing on commercial photography and raising children. It seems my hours and minutes are always accounted for. Yet, when I do this kind of work, I love it! These photos were part of an auction for my girls school. A worthy cause. The Wallace family purchased my photo package, an afternoon with me and a photo book. Here […]
