I met Teodora Katelieva in 2007. Someone referred me to ‘the best trainer’ in the world. It’s been a long time and she’s still my ‘trainer’. She has a great sense of humor, but takes her job seriously. Her no bullshit theology keeps me grounded and connected to my own power and strength. Covid came, and without skipping a beat, she’s finding ways to take care of business and continue serving her clients. No self pity, no complaining. Onward. Here she is showing me one of her new tools. I could write a book about the lessons she’s helped me […]

Surreallistic Days

Recently, I was on assignment for TriRail. One of our objectives was to shoot the platforms at peak times to illustrate the volume and different types of riders using the train. The week after I finished this work, things changed. It still seems so surreal to me….the things that are becoming normal now. Public transportation is one of the best places to witness and feel these new norms. Caution. Fear. Optimism. Most important, the innate desire people have to carrying on, despite. I wanted to explore this new phenomenon using some images from this project in a different way.

Present Moment Beautiful Moment

Currently, it seems that it is in everyones best interest to nurture creative impulses, regardless of one’s job or personal situation. Great time to discover unimagined opportunities for creativity and service in every aspect of life. At last I have time for ongoing project, #PresentMomentBeautifulMoment, a photographic #botanicalstudy exploring #presence. Each image is produced by interacting with the natural environment. Through presence botanical items emerge. I interact with them by using a black cloth to separate them from their environment. After isolating and photographing the plant or tree or flower on location, I continue the process in post production. It’s […]

It’s such a blessing to have clients that really appreciate and support the arts. Not only do artists bring creativity, inspiration, joy and the ability to unite us in a common experience. They are also a link between art and commerce. We are all richer because of creative people. Miami is richer because of people who support the arts.

Creating. Building Something New.

It’s what drives us in one way or another. I love construction sites. They are rich with metaphor and speak to me on a spiritual level. I was on my way to pick up my girls at school when I drove by someones new project. Stopped the car. Paused the schedule. Wandered around… present moment, beautiful moment. Briefly, there was no such thing as time…

Dreaming. Creating. Never quitting. Doing, doing and doing the right thing with no attachment to an outcome. Day after day. Unwavering commitment to quality. That’s what many small businesses are about. Like mine (escardaphoto.com) and like the people at the #Fiddlershop. Fedex Small Business Grant Contest Award Winners 2018. Sold My Car Yesterday….

I was amazed at the emotional connection and feelings of love, joy and deep gratitude I felt as I walked away from it. Thoughts of drives to and from with my girls knowing they were growing and different each time they got in and out. All the photo shoots with my car loaded with gear, allowing me to be creative and earn a living. Often standing on top of it as a platform for me and my tripod. I thought of many good times jamming to loud music with family, friends and especially my girls. The lectures. The laughter. Holding […]

It’s A Dirty Job, But…..

Industrial photography is a specialized field of photography which makes it possible for businesses to communicate with customers and other businesses showcasing their industrial processes, machines, and techniques. I thrive in these environments. Here is where I can indulge my curiosity and wonder about how things are made and where they come from. An understanding of how these products are marketed and used in daily life and in business to business consumption helps a lot. Photographing people at work, industrial machinery, locations and manufacturing processes requires a skilled photographer with years of experience. I have traveled to remote industrial facilities […]

Being In The Right Place At The Right Time

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Advertising, Architectural, Arcitecture, Assignment Work, Industrial, Inspiration, Lifestyle, Personal

Sometimes we plan to be in the right place at the right time. Like just after the sun rises and the landscape is suddenly flooded with clear golden light. That’s when I did these photos for Portofino Island Resort. No rain, lots of great light, the beauty of the location and the company of a great creative team made this film and still shoot a complete success. This could have been different though. Sometimes we find ourselves somewhere and the light (or our plans) are not optimal. That’s a good time to remember that the light is ALWAYS there. It may […]
